The motoscope light

from motogadget is a multifunctional, digital instrument that either completely replaces or enhances conventional display devices on motorcycles and kit-cars. Added-on parts like bicycle speedometers or additional rev counters are no longer required, and original instrumentation that is too big, heavy, unsightly or faulty can be removed. The motoscope light replaces such instruments with a small, light and reliable device. The motoscope light shows every measured value with high precision and features a modern design and an individual look.
The motoscope light is eminently suited to all custom bikes such as Low Riders, Street Fighters, Café Racers, racing bikes and all other individually styled motorcycles, as well as to Quads and sporting kit-cars. In short, the motoscope light offers multiple functions in a small, precise and attractively styled instrument.

Casing
The billet aluminium casing is CNC-milled and therefore of the highest quality. Its surface is anodized either in black or aluminium nature (silver). We also offer a polished version. The casing is sealed and protects all electronic parts against weather, water and dust.

LE-display and LC-display
The engine speed (revs/min) is easily ascertainable via a band of 39 ultra-bright LEDs. In order to achieve an optimal readability in darkness, daylight and twilight, the brightness of the LEDs is adapted automatically by means of a photodiode.
This adaption can still be adjusted individually in the set-up menu. By pushing a non-locking-switch (menu push button, see below) the exact engine speed can also be shown numerically on the LCD. The first ultra bright LED on the engine speed band is red and serves as a display for the permitted engine-speed threshold ('red area'). It flashes red when the engine speed limit is reached, and it can be easily adjusted to suit every engine.

The LC-display is transflective. This means that incident sunlight results in an automatic strengthening of the contrast between the background and the readings on the display. In addition, permanent backlighting and large numbers provide optimal readability under all conditions.

Operation
An external menu push button can be installed on the handlebar that enables the user to switch from one display mode to another. However, it is also possible to integrate this function into the pre-installed head-lamp-flasher-switch, which is non-locking, easy to reach and is not required by law. Normally, the standard display on the LCD shows the vehicle speed. Other measurements can be called up on the display by pressing the menu push button. The device can be adjusted such that the display returns automatically to the speed indication after a short period of time. The menu push button is also used for the entry of all specific vehicle data in the device's computer when programming the motoscope light.
All functions are easy to access, and the logical menu layout means that individual function presettings can easily be entered by the user. Naturally, presettings and/or stored values remain saved when the power supply is not operating.

Installation
Due to its compact dimensions and its neutral, elegant design, the motoscope light can be fitted on almost every motorcycle. It can be used as a stand-alone instrument mounted on the fork bridge or handlebar or it can be integrated into existing instrument panels or cockpits. A stable fastening is ensured by three tapped holes (M4) on the back side of the instrument. In order to make installation as easy as possible we recomment using our universal mounting bracket kits (see accessories).

Sensors and wiring
Simple wiring and a detailed installation and instruction manual make the installation and connection of the motoscope light uncomplicated. All the device's electronics are kept separate from the vehicle's power supply in order to ensure they are isolated from unwanted voltage peaks and disturbances. The connection cable has 5 or 6 wires and a length of approx. 55 cm. This means that it can easily reach the corresponding connection points beneath the fuel tank or within the headlight.

The wire for measuring engine speed is simply attached to the ignition coil or ignition box. The speedo sensor (dry reed contact) glue and magnets for speed measurements is supplied with the device. Also a connector kit (6-pole) and a mini-button. Usually the speedo sensor is attached to the fork bar. It's front end must be pointed towards one ore more magnets that rotate in direct relationship to the driving speed.
This small sensor (M5x22 mm) is made of stainless steel and complies with the highest industrial standards (IP68). Its 1.5 m long connection cable can easily be attached to the front or rear wheel.

Versions (colour, scale, ignition)

The instruments are available in anodised black, natural aluminium (silver) and mirror polished with engraved engine speed scales of either 8000 rpm, 10000 rpm or 14000 rpm. Different anodizing and scales have no effect on the price. For prices of the version 'polished' see below.

For CDI ignitions (capacitor ignitions), which are often used in Off-Road-Bikes, Enduros, Quads and vehicles with two-stroke engines, you have to order a special ignition signal pickup unit. Please ask for details regarding compatibility to your vehicle.

The motoscope light is also suitable for small sports and kit-cars, such as Lotus, Caterham, etc.
